Healthy Red Spinach Paratha

          As a mother, getting your child to eat green vegetables can sometimes feel like going into battle. The initial reaction of “What is this? I don’t want to eat this!” can be disheartening . However, through my own journey, I have discovered innovative ways to incorporate green leafy vegetables into my child’s diet. From spinach pasta to spinach muffins and rice, I started by sneaking these nutritious greens into their meals. But now, thanks to my new cooking style and creative ideas which I learned and inspired from my fellow blogger moms , my child happily eats these vegetables without any fuss. 

        In particular, red  spinach has become a staple in our household due to its rich source of iron, calcium, and its significant role in a child’s development. Today, I am excited to share with you a simple yet delicious recipe for red spinach paratha that you can easily prepare in your Indian kitchen. This wholesome dish can be enjoyed with ketchup or yogurt, making it a hit with both kids and adults .

The Importance of Red Spinach in a Child’s Diet:

      Red spinach, also known as Lal Sag or Lal Bhaji, is not only visually appealing but also a powerhouse of nutrients. It is a rich source of iron and calcium, which are crucial for your child’s growth and development. By incorporating spinach into your child’s diet frequently, you can ensure they receive these essential nutrients, which is important  for their overall well-being.

How we eat red Spinach ?

      In my household, red spinach finds its way into various meals. One of our favorites is red spinach curry, which pairs perfectly with chapati or jowar roti. Its vibrant color and delightful taste make it an exciting addition to our lunch or dinner routine. Specially , for busy mornings, red spinach parathas make a quick and nutritious breakfast option. Accompanied by a side of yogurt, they provide a balanced meal that keeps us energized throughout the day. The best part is that my son loves these parathas so much that his lunchbox returns empty whenever I pack them for him!

Red Spinach Paratha Recipe:

Now, let’s see how to make these yummy parathas in a simpler way.

Ingredients:

  • whole wheat flour           2 cups                                      
  • gram flour/ Besan          2 tbspoon                                       
  • finely chopped red spinach leaves                  1 cup 
  • onion, finely chopped            1 small                          
  • green chili, finely chopped   1 no
  • cumin seeds                 1/2tspoon                                            
  • coriander powder         1/2 tspoon                                     
  • garam masala                     1/2 tspoon                              
  • turmeric powder                1/2 tspoon                          
  • carrom seeds                     1/2 tspoon                             
  • sesame seeds                       1/2 tspoon                               
  • Salt to taste
  • Ghee or oil for cooking

Instructions:

  1.  In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and besan / gram flour.

2. Next, add finely chopped red spinach leaves, onion, and green chilli and coriander.

3. Add salt and coriander powder as per taste .

4. Now add spices, garam masala, turmeric powder, red chilli powder cumin seeds and crushed carrom seeds.

5. Next add sesame seeds for crunchy texture.

6. Add ghee to make parathas softer.

7. Mix everything together until well combined.

6.Gradually add water.

 

7. Now knead the mixture to form a soft and smooth dough.

8. Allow the dough to rest for 10-15 minutes.

9. Divide the dough into small balls.

 10. And roll them out into any shapes using roller.

10. Cook the parathas on a heated tawa , adding ghee or oil on both sides until golden brown spots appear.

11. Serve the red spinach parathas hot with ketchup or yogurt for a delicious and nutritious meal.
