Ultimate Guide to Kids’ Birthday Party Planning in Singapore (Venues, Food, Games & More)

Planning your child’s birthday party in Singapore can feel overwhelming especially if you are new to the country, don’t have family around, or are doing it all for the first time. I have been there! I remember when Aarav was little, I had no clue where to start from where to book a venue to what food to serve or where to get affordable return gifts.

But after planning multiple birthdays for Aarav and Aagam, I have learned that with the right information and a bit of early planning, it can actually be fun, budget-friendly, and stress-free!

So here is your all-in-one guide made for parents like you ❤️

🏡 Step 1: Finding the Right Venue💡

The venue really sets the mood for the whole birthday party  and in Singapore, there are plenty of options depending on your space, guest list, and budget.

  • If You Live in a Condo:

Most condos have a function room that you can book for free or for a small fee. It’s great for small to medium-sized gatherings and super convenient since it’s right downstairs!

But do keep in mind:

  • Booking early is a must, especially during weekends and school holidays.
  • You will need to handle everything yourself from decorations and food to games and clean-up.
  • Some condos have restrictions on outside vendors or balloons, so always check with the condo management first.
  • You can hire party planners or decorators to help, or go the DIY route if you are on a budget.

Tip: You can try combine with balloon arches, rented soft play setups, or even bouncy castles (if allowed) to make the space feel like a proper party zone.

  • If You Live in an HDB Flat:

HDB community halls or multi-purpose rooms are affordable and spacious, ideal for big gatherings or if you don’t have space at home.

Here is what to know:

  • Book at least 4–8 weeks in advance.
  • Prices are budget-friendly .
  • Most halls are completely bare, so you will need to bring in tables, chairs, fans, décor, etc.
  • You can rent tables/chairs from party vendors or sometimes get them from the town council.

🍽️ What About the Food?

Let’s be honest  good food makes a great party! No matter how beautiful the setup is, if the food is not  right, guests remember that. But finding the right food option for a birthday party in Singapore isn’t always easy. It depends on your budget, your guest list, and their preferences  are they Indian, non-Indian, vegetarian, non-vegetarian, kids, adults?

Here’s a helpful breakdown to make your food planning stress-free:

🧁 For Toddler Birthday Parties:

Keep it simple, bite-sized, and kid-friendly.
Finger foods work best think mini sandwiches, fries, idli bites, muffins, fruit skewers, and small cheese cubes. Avoid too many spicy or saucy dishes.

🍛 For Indian Food Lovers – Restaurant Catering

If you have a larger guest list and want to go for a traditional Indian menu, there are plenty of reliable restaurant caterers in Singapore.

Some tried-and-tested options include:

  • Kailash Parbat
  • Anjappar
  • Shivam Restaurant I personally ordered from here for Aagam’s first birthday and had a great experience , they delivered on time, helped with the food setup, and the quantity was more than expected!

Why choose restaurant catering?

  • Most offer full packages from welcome drinks to dessert
  • Affordable pricing with generous portions
  • No need to stress about separate vendors for drinks, cutlery, or setup

🍲 Prefer Homemade Food? Try Home Chefs!

If you’re looking for a more homely, less commercial taste, home chefs are a great option. They cook fresh, hygienic food and can customise menus based on your needs  vegetarian, Jain food, less spice, etc.

You can find trusted home chefs through:

  • Facebook groups like Maharashtrians in Singapore, NRI Buzz
  • WhatsApp community groups
  • Recommendations from fellow moms and friends

✅ Bonus: Many also offer sweets and desserts like gulab jamun, cupcakes, modak, etc.

🍕 For Smaller Gatherings – Go Fun & Easy

If your guest list is small and you are looking for something quick, kid-friendly, and fun, go for:

  • McDonald’s Party Menu (includes food + toys + setup!)
  • Pizza Hut catering This year for Aarav`s birthday we ordered food from them and they delivered fresh and yummy pizzas (they have party bundles + veg options)

Both are cost-effective, well-loved by kids, and zero effort for you

📝 Tips to remember:

  • Always check for dietary restrictions (vegetarian, eggless, allergies)
  • Don’t forget snacks and drinks for early guests or kids who get hungry before cake time
  • If you are outdoors, carry extra paper plates, tissues, water bottles, and garbage bags

Whether you choose a fancy caterer or a DIY snack table, remember: the best food is the one that keeps your guests happy and your stress levels low. 😊

🎂 Let’s Talk Cake — Because No Birthday Is Complete Without One!

If you want to see that big smile on your child’s face, then the birthday cake has to be special! 🎉

These days, the customised, theme-based cake isn’t just dessert , it’s the star of the party table. Whether it’s a Cocomelon cake, a superhero design, or a simple jungle theme, kids get super excited when they see their favourite characters on the cake.

🧁 Where to Order Birthday Cakes in Singapore:

1. Popular Cake Shops:

Well-known brands like:

  • PrimaDéli
  • Bengawan Solo

offer customised cakes, and they’re great for beautiful, professional designs. Just note:

  • Prices may be a little higher
  • You should place your order at least 2–3 weeks in advance

2. Home Bakers – Budget-Friendly & Personal

Singapore is full of talented home bakers who do amazing customised cakes including eggless, less sweet, or theme-based cakes. Many of them are moms themselves and understand exactly what we’re looking for.

✅ Why choose home bakers?

  • More flexible with customisation

  • Often more affordable and personal

🎂 Tip: Always share your theme, number of guests, and any food preferences (eggless, low sugar, nut-free) while ordering. And don’t forget to order your cake topper if it’s not included!

🎁 Return Gifts That Kids Love and Parents Appreciate Too!

One day, my friend’s cute little girl came up to me and said,
“Aunty, I loved the return gift from your party. My other friend’s goodie bag wasn’t fun at all.”

That small comment made me realise how even a simple goodie bag can leave a lasting impression. Kids may not care about expensive items, but they do love thoughtful, age-appropriate gifts that are fun and useful.

As a mom who has planned many birthday parties in Singapore, I always try to make return gifts exciting without spending too much. Here’s how I do it:

✅ My 3 Simple Rules for Choosing Return Gifts

1. Set a Budget First

Return gifts should be fun, not stressful! I fix a budget and only choose items that fit into it. This keeps me on track and avoids overspending.

2. No Chocolates in Goodie Bags

Kids already get plenty of treats at the party. I skip chocolates and instead include something they can play with, use, or learn from.

3. Focus on Quality Over Quantity

Instead of stuffing the bag with too many items, I choose 1–2 good quality and useful gifts that kids will actually enjoy.

🛍️ Best Places to Buy Return Gifts in Singapore

Finding return gifts in Singapore is easy if you plan early. Here are some of my go-to places based on budget and time:

📦 If You are Planning in Advance (2–3 weeks before the party)

  • Shopee and Lazada
They offer a wide variety of affordable return gifts. Look for stationery sets, DIY kits, small toys, and puzzles. Just be sure to check seller ratings and expected delivery dates.

✨ If You Want Premium Gifts

  • Smiggle
Smiggle is every kid’s dream! They often have sales and bundle offers. A single Smiggle item like a mini notebook, pencil case, or pen set makes a perfect return gift that stands out.

⏰ If You’re Planning Last Minute

Try these stores with ready-to-buy options:

  • Mustafa Centre best for bulk options for all age groups
  • Miniso, Mr. DIY, and Daiso -affordable, cute, and practical gifts like Lego-style blocks, water bottles, puzzles, and colouring sets

💡 Return Gift Ideas That Are Always a Hit

  • Mini puzzles or board games
  • DIY art or craft kits
  • Reusable water bottles
  • Cute stationery sets
  • Storybooks for different age groups
  • Small indoor plants (for older kids)

Return gifts don’t have to be expensive. What matters is thoughtfulness, usefulness, and a little fun! When kids open the bag and smile  and parents appreciate the effort  you know you did it right.

🧩 Entertainment & Activities for Birthday Parties in Singapore

One of the biggest worries for parents while planning a birthday party is – how to keep kids entertained?
But don’t worry, there are plenty of fun and creative options to keep the little ones engaged and smiling throughout the party!

🎉 Popular Paid Entertainment Options

In Singapore, many parents love hiring professionals like:

  • Face painters
  • Balloon artists
  • Magicians

These entertainers are a big hit with kids and usually charge by the hour or based on the number of guests. You can easily find them through apps like Carousell, Facebook parenting groups, or by asking for recommendations from fellow parents.

🏡 Budget-Friendly DIY Games

If you’re planning a more budget-friendly party, there are also lots of simple DIY games that are just as fun:

  • Musical chairs
  • Pass the parcel
  • Freeze dance
  • Treasure hunt

Sometimes, just playing music and letting kids dance freely turns into the best party moment!

🪅 Don’t Miss the Pinata Game!

One of my personal favourite party games is the pinata – it’s always a big hit! Kids love taking turns to break it open and grab the goodies inside.
The best part? It’s super affordable.
You can buy cute and colorful pinatas from:

  • Shopee for $10–$20 SGD
  • Or even Mustafa Centre — I got one for just $7 for Aarav’s 9th birthday!

It’s a perfect game to wrap up the party with loads of laughter and excitement.

📸 Photography: Don’t Miss the Memories!

You have spent weeks maybe even months planning your little one’s special day so don’t forget to capture those precious moments!
Photos are not just pictures… they are memories your child will cherish for years. My kids still enjoys watching his old birthday videos and pictures.

📷 Options to Capture the Fun:

  1. Hire a Freelance Photographer
If you want someone to capture every candid laugh and happy hug, hiring a freelance photographer is a great option.
📍 You can find affordable and talented photographers on Carousell, Instagram, or Facebook parenting groups.
  2. Ask one of your close friend to click pictures , try this I am sure they wont deny.

 3. Create a DIY Photo Booth
Set up a small photo corner with:

  • A simple backdrop you can order from shopee even a curtain works!
  • Some fun props such as glasses, hats, signs
  • A ring light or even good natural light

Trust me, this becomes a mini attraction at the party!

🎈 Final Thoughts: Make It Memorable, Not Perfect

Planning a birthday party, especially in a place like Singapore where options are endless (and sometimes overwhelming), can feel like a big task. But remember your child will remember the joy, the hugs, and the cake, not whether the balloons matched the plates.

Whether you choose a lavish venue or celebrate at home with a few DIY games, what truly matters is the love and intention you put into it.

Over the years, after planning birthdays for both Aarav and Aagam, I have learned one thing you don’t need a perfect party, you just need a happy child.

I hope this blog helped you plan your child’s special day a little better! ❤️
