Finding affordable kid’s activities in Singapore is not always easy. Private sports classes can become expensive very quickly, especially when your child wants to try more than one activity.
That is one reason we have been using ActiveSG programmes for quite some time.
My kids have tried activities such as football and taekwondo, and what I like about ActiveSG is that it gives families a chance to introduce children to different sports without immediately committing to expensive private coaching.
Recently, our younger one started preschool football, and I thought I would share our experience because many parents may not realise how many affordable sports programmes are available through ActiveSG.
Preschool Football in Singapore Through ActiveSG
ActiveSG Football Academy has programmes for children from around 3 to 6 years old, designed to introduce younger children to football in a more playful and age-appropriate way. Older children can continue through programmes designed for different age groups and skill levels.
For preschoolers, the focus is not simply on scoring goals or learning advanced football techniques.
At this age, activities can help children work on things like:
- balance and coordination
- basic movement skills
- listening to instructions
- taking turns
- confidence in group settings
- teamwork
- spatial awareness
- getting comfortable with coaches and other children

And of course, it is also a very good way to use all that preschool energy!
For us, that was one of the main reasons we decided to let him try football.
How Much Does ActiveSG Football Cost?
The exact price can vary depending on the program, venue, age group and season.
For the program we joined, the cost worked out to roughly S$10 per class for Foreigners, which we found very reasonable compared with many private sports programmes in Singapore.
ActiveSG also runs many programmes where fees are charged per season or program block rather than as individual lessons, so always check the latest listing before booking.
Some programmes may also allow eligible ActiveSG credits to be used to offset part of the cost. For example, current ActiveSG programmes show different member and non-member fees, while some school-holiday programmes allow eligible Singapore Citizen and PR participants to offset part of the program fee using ActiveSG credits. Because fees and subsidies can change, I always recommend checking the current price inside MyActiveSG+ before registering.
How to Book Kid’s Sports Classes Through ActiveSG
Booking is quite straightforward once you know where to look.
You can use the MyActiveSG+ platform to search for sports programmes and available activities. ActiveSG’s program listings include activities ranging from sports academies to fitness and dance programmes. Sport Singapore
A simple way to search is:
- Log in to MyActiveSG+.
- Go to the programmes section.
- Search for the sport you are interested in, such as football, athletics, tennis, basketball or multi-sport.
- Filter or search according to your preferred location.
- Check the age group carefully.
- Look at the available dates, times and program fees.
- Select the child you are booking for.
- Complete payment to confirm the booking.
Search by Location — This Makes a Big Difference
This is one thing I strongly recommend.
Do not just search by sport.
Search by location too.
ActiveSG programmes are conducted at different sport centers around Singapore, and the available sports, timings and age groups can vary between locations.
For example, ActiveSG programmes are offered across many areas, including places such as Woodlands, Sengkang, Bedok, Yishun, Clementi, Jurong and others, depending on the program. Sport Singapore
Sometimes a program may not be available at the sports centre closest to you, but another location slightly farther away may have exactly the age group and timing you need.
So when searching, I usually check:
sport + age group + location + timing + fee
before deciding.
ActiveSG Is Not Only for Football

This is another thing many parents may not realise. ActiveSG has a wide variety of sports and fitness programmes. Current ActiveSG Academies and Clubs include activities such as:
- Football
- Athletics
- Basketball
- Tennis
- Table tennis
- Volleyball
- Hockey
- Multi-sport programmes
- Para sports
There are also fitness and dance-style activities such as Zumba, Salsation, Megadanz and other group fitness programmes, depending on the venue and schedule. Sport Singapore
So if football is not your child’s thing, there are many other options worth exploring.
Multi-Sport Programmes Are Great for Kids Who Haven’t Chosen a Sport Yet
If your child is still young and you are not sure what sport they will enjoy, I think the multi-sport programmes are especially useful.
ActiveSG’s Multi-Sport Programme gives children the opportunity to try different sports while building basic movement skills, coordination and teamwork. The current program is designed for children around 5 to 12 years old, although age groups and program details can vary by intake. Sport Singapore
This can be a much better starting point than paying for a long private package before knowing whether your child even likes the sport.
School Holiday Sports Programmes
ActiveSG also runs school holiday programmes, which are worth checking whenever the holidays are approaching.
Current examples include things like:
- kid’s football camps
- inline skating
- multi-sport programmes
- other introductory sports activities
Many are designed for beginners, so children do not necessarily need previous experience. Sport Singapore
This is especially helpful during school holidays when parents are looking for meaningful activities that keep children active without spending a huge amount.
Why We Prefer Trying ActiveSG Before Private Coaching
Private coaching can be excellent, especially when a child becomes serious about a sport. But private lessons can also become expensive.
For younger children, I personally feel it often makes sense to first let them experience the sport, see whether they enjoy it and observe whether they are ready for more structured training.
That is where programmes like ActiveSG can be very practical.
For us, it has been a way to expose the kids to different activities such as football and taekwondo without feeling like every new interest has to become a major financial commitment immediately.
If later they become genuinely interested in a particular sport, then parents can always consider more specialised or private training.
Our First Preschool Football Experience

Our younger one recently started football, and honestly, one of the nicest parts had nothing to do with football itself. His elder brother stayed close to him throughout.
He introduced him to the coaches, encouraged him and kept cheering him on. Watching one child learning something new while the other was standing there like his biggest supporter was such a beautiful sibling moment.
And that is another reason I like sports for children. It is not only about technique.
They learn confidence, patience, communication, resilience and how to function as part of a group. Sometimes the most valuable things happening during a sports class are not visible on the scoreboard.
Is Football Worth Trying for a Preschooler?
For us, yes.
But I would not approach preschool football with the expectation that your three- or four-year-old is going to start serious football training.
At this age, I would look at it as:
movement + coordination + confidence + listening + social interaction + fun.
If the child starts loving football along the way, that is a bonus.
Tips Before Booking an ActiveSG Kid’s Programme
Before paying, I recommend checking a few things carefully:
- Confirm the age group because preschool and older children may have separate programmes.
- Search several locations if your nearest centre has no suitable timing.
- Check whether the program is sold as individual sessions or as a block.
- Look at the total program fee rather than assuming every activity costs the same.
- Check whether ActiveSG credits can be used.
- Read what equipment or clothing the child needs.
- Arrive early for the first session so your child can become comfortable with the environment.
- For very young children, avoid judging the class based only on the first session. Some children take a few sessions to settle in.
Final Thoughts
If you are looking for affordable kid’s sports classes in Singapore, ActiveSG is definitely worth exploring before immediately signing up for expensive private coaching.
Whether your child is interested in football, athletics, basketball, tennis, multi-sport activities or holiday programmes, you may find something suitable at a sports centre near you. Sport Singapore
For our family, the biggest advantage has been being able to let the kids try different activities without putting too much pressure on them or on our wallet.
And sometimes that is exactly what children need at the beginning:
a place to move, try, make mistakes, have fun and slowly discover what they actually enjoy.
