Why I Wanted to Create This Guide
We have been living in Singapore for almost 12 years, but interestingly, we only started becoming properly involved in Garba and Dandiya celebrations here over the last few years.
And one of the biggest reasons was simply this: we didn’t know where to go.
When you are new to a country or even when you’ve lived here for years unless someone in your circle shares an event poster or invites you, it can actually be quite difficult to know which Garba events are happening, whether children are allowed, how much tickets cost, or whether you need to carry your own Dandiya sticks.
For the longest time, Navratri for us was more about celebrating at home or watching what friends were doing.
Then, over the last few years, we started attending Garba events in Singapore ourselves and honestly, that made the festival feel completely different.
The music, colourful outfits, kids running around, everyone dancing together… it gives you a little feeling of being back home while still celebrating here in Singapore.
And if you’re going with children, don’t think they have to be expert dancers either!
At many events, there are also fun competitions such as Best Dressed, Best Dancer and children’s prizes. My son actually won a prize for Best Dancer/Best Dressed at one of the Garba celebrations we attended, and he was so excited about it. ❤️
That is one of the reasons I now love taking the kids along.
For them, it’s not only about dressing up or dancing. They’re experiencing our festivals, music and traditions in a fun way while growing up in Singapore.

When is Navratri 2026?
Sharad Navratri begins on Sunday, 11 October 2026 and the nine-day celebration continues through Monday, 19 October 2026.
Vijayadashami/Dussehra falls on Tuesday, 20 October 2026.
Navratri is dedicated to Goddess Durga and her different forms. Along with prayer and fasting, one of the most loved parts of the festival is getting together in the evening for Garba and Dandiya Raas.
One thing to know if you’re celebrating in Singapore: Garba nights here don’t always follow the exact Navratri dates.
Because many events are organised around weekends, community hall availability and venue schedules, some Garba and Dandiya nights start even before Navratri officially begins, while a few celebrations continue after Dussehra as well.
So if you see a Dandiya event happening in early October or even after 20 October, don’t be surprised that’s quite common in Singapore.
And the good news is that you don’t need to be in Gujarat to enjoy it. Singapore has celebrations happening across different neighbourhoods throughout the month.
Navratri & Dandiya Events in Singapore 2026

1. Bukit Panjang Dandiya Nite 2026

Do note that pre-registration is required, and according to the official listing, purchased tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.

3. GsvTec Dandiya Night 2026 at Singapore Swimming Club

If you want more flexibility with dates, this is one of the biggest advantages of the GsvTec celebration it runs across eight evenings.
The event combines traditional Gujarati Garba and Dandiya with Bollywood music, making it suitable even if you’re not familiar with traditional Garba.
Food is also available at the venue, including vegetarian favourites such as chaat, samosa, papdi chaat and pav bhaji.
Families should note that stroller space may be limited, so travelling light is advisable.
Good for: Families, groups of friends and anyone who wants several dates to choose from.
4. Biggest Bollywood Dandiya Night 2026

Expect Dandiya and Garba dancing mixed with Bollywood music, cultural performances, food and festive entertainment.
If your group prefers a bigger, energetic Bollywood-style celebration rather than a smaller community event, this could be worth considering.
5. Dandiya 2026 by Viva Loca & TehSeekers
📅 Date: Sunday, 11 October 2026

📍 Venue: Nanyang Pho Leng Hui Kuan, 26 Lorong 27A Geylang

This event is designed as a more organised evening of music, dancing and celebration for families and groups.
There is a welcome session followed by a guided warm-up before the main Dandiya celebration begins.
The organiser recommends festive Indian attire and comfortable footwear something I completely agree with because once you start Garba, you’re probably not sitting down much!
6. Singapore Gujarati Society Betha Garba 2026
📅 Date: Sunday, 11 October 2026
⏰ Time: 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM
📍 Venue: Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Cultural Academy, 5 Sennett Road
For those wanting to experience another side of Navratri, the Singapore Gujarati Society is organising Betha Garba.
Betha Garba focuses more on the traditional and devotional side of the celebration and can be a lovely way for children to understand that Navratri is not only about dancing it is also deeply connected to devotion, community and tradition.
6. Singapore Gujarati Society Navratri 2026
📅 Main Navratri dates: 16, 17 & 18 October 2026
📍 Venue: Dusit Thani Laguna Singapore, 11 Laguna Golf Green
The Singapore Gujarati Society organises one of Singapore’s established Gujarati Navratri celebrations.
There is also a special event for younger participants:

Parents looking specifically for a children’s Navratri experience should definitely check availability.
7. Woodlands Zone 6 RN Dandiya Night 2026

This is one of the more affordable family options on the list.
The ticket includes event entry, Dandiya sticks, Indian vegetarian food, lucky draw and floor prizes.
And yes this is also the kind of community event where you may see fun categories like Best Dressed or Best Dancer, so if the kids love dressing up, let them enjoy the full festive look!
For families living in Woodlands, Admiralty, Marsiling or Sembawang, it’s also convenient because you don’t necessarily have to travel across Singapore for your Navratri celebration.
8. Tampines GRC Dandiya Night 2026
📅 Date: Saturday, 17 October 2026
⏰ Time: 5:30 PM – 9:00 PM
📍 Venue: Our Tampines Hub ActiveSG Community Auditorium
East-side families, this one’s for you!
The evening includes:
- Live DJ music
- Dandiya dance sessions

This is another nice reminder that Garba events aren’t only about dancing.
Children can dress up, participate and enjoy the festive atmosphere even if they don’t know all the Garba steps.
9. Dandiya Utsav 2026 by Charkula Arts
📅 Date: Saturday, 17 October 2026

📍 Venue: Singapore Khalsa Association, 2 Tessensohn Road

Punggol families have a lovely post-Navratri celebration to look forward to as well.
Organised by One Punggol CC IAEC, Dandiya Masti 2026 takes place on 24 October a few days after Dussehra which is another good example of how Garba celebrations in Singapore often extend beyond the official Navratri dates.
The evening includes:

- Festive bazaar
- Best Dressed – Adults & Kids
- Best Dancer – Adults & Kids
I personally love when community events include these little competitions because they make the celebration even more exciting for children.
My son has won a prize at a Garba event before, and honestly, the excitement on his face made the evening even more memorable for us. ❤️
So if your child loves dressing up or dancing, let them enjoy it fully you never know, they might come home with a prize too! 😄
Good for: Families living in Punggol, Sengkang and the Northeast, especially those looking for a family-friendly weekend celebration.

A mini bazaar is also planned alongside the celebration, so expect festive shopping and accessories as part of the evening.
What Should You Wear for Garba in Singapore?
There really isn’t one compulsory outfit.
For women, popular choices include:
- Chaniya choli
- Lehenga
- Flared skirts with crop tops
- Colourful kurtas
- Indo-western festive outfits
For men:
- Kurta-pyjama
- Kurta with jeans
- Kediyu-style Gujarati outfits
- Nehru jackets
And for children, my biggest recommendation would simply be:
Choose something they can actually move in.
Singapore is warm and humid, and Garba involves a lot of movement. Lightweight, breathable clothing is usually much more practical than a very heavy festive outfit.
Where Can You Buy Navratri Outfits & Dandiya Sticks in Singapore?
If you haven’t planned your outfit yet, Little India is probably the easiest place to start.
Around Serangoon Road and the surrounding shopping streets, you’ll find Indian clothing, jewellery, bangles, dupattas and festive accessories.
Before making a special trip for Dandiya sticks, however, I would suggest calling the shop to check stock because festive items can sell out close to the event dates.
You can also check online marketplaces if you need something quickly.
Navratri 2026 Colours
Many families enjoy coordinating their clothes with the traditional Navratri colour of the day.
One commonly followed 2026 sequence is:

After attending these celebrations with children, here are a few things I now check before booking:
1. Check whether kids need a ticket
Every event has different age rules.
2. Find out whether Dandiya sticks are included
Don’t arrive and realise everyone else has sticks except you. 😄
3. Check for children’s activities and prizes
Some events have Best Dressed, Best Dancer, games and lucky draws.
This can make the evening much more exciting for children.
In fact, one of my son’s favourite memories from Garba here was winning a prize himself. ❤️
4. Don’t stress about perfect Garba steps
Especially with kids.
Sometimes they copy people around them, sometimes they create their own moves and apparently those moves might even win them a Best Dancer prize! 😂
5. Dress up, but keep it comfortable
Beautiful outfits are part of the fun, but lightweight clothes and comfortable shoes make a huge difference in Singapore’s weather.
6. Eat before you reach or check whether food is available
Hungry child + crowded Garba hall = not the Navratri memory you were hoping for. 😄
7. Celebrating Navratri Away From India ❤️
For me, this is actually the most beautiful part.
When you’ve lived away from India for years, festivals slowly become one of the ways you keep that connection alive for your children.
We’re building our life in Singapore, but at the same time I want my children to know the festivals, music, food and traditions we grew up with.
And that doesn’t always have to happen through a serious cultural lesson.
Sometimes it’s simply, getting dressed together, meeting friends, holding two colourful Dandiya sticks, dancing badly, laughing, winning a small prize… and coming home with another festival memory.
Maybe that’s why we have started enjoying Garba so much more over the last few years.
